#Flow doesn’t just change how we work—it changes how we think and relate too.
It took me years to realise this. It wasn’t until I joined Neu21 that a lightbulb went off in my head. 💡 Here’s how Flow transforms an organisation 👇
For years, I talked about “Ways of Working.” When I was exposed to the “Ways of Thinking” and “Ways of Relating” it all clicked.
Last Friday, Andrew Jones sparked a conversation with me about how Flow affects these three dimensions. I thought that it would spark a good discussion.
Here are some initial thoughts:
1️⃣ Ways of Working: From Busy to Purposeful
Flow-aware organisations stop chasing busyness and start focusing on purpose. Controlling Work In Progress (WIP), replenishing work more often and in smaller batches, and measuring key flow metrics helps build agility across teams, team-of-teams, and the organisation as a whole.
- ️ Imagine teams that don’t just complete work but continuously improve how the work itself gets done.
2️⃣ Ways of Thinking: From Output-Oriented to Outcome-Oriented
Flow encourages a shift from task-checking to focusing on outcomes. Work is no longer seen as isolated actions—it’s part of a larger system/purpose. As employees reflect on how their thinking impacts outcomes, trust grows. Teams start thriving on ambiguity, knowing they can adapt.
- ️ It’s not just about producing high output—it’s about delivering value to customers and advancing the mission.
3️⃣ Ways of Relating: From Transactional to Trust-Based
Flow transforms how teams collaborate. It fosters trust and vulnerability, where people are open and proactive about helping each other succeed. Relationships become deeper, and teams don’t just work together—they thrive together.
- ️ When trust flows, so does innovation.
Which non-obvious changes have you seen Flow spark in complex organisations? I'm super keen to hear your thoughts!
